Are You Listening? (2001)
Choreographed by JoAnna Mendl Shaw
Music: Bob Goldberg
Length: 11:00

In a stylistic fusion reminiscent of Beckett and the imagery of European clowning, Are You Listening? is a tragic-comic duet in which unspoken words beg for attention. Ms. Shaw uses a broad movement vocabulary, from free-wheeling lifts to quirky folk dancing to quiet tableaus, to examine how a couple learns to listen. Conversations are mundane and profound; it is banter between two players committed to a lifelong journey together. This duet can be performed on its own or within a landscape of choreographed children on scooters.
